DiCaprio Becomes Hoover in “J. Edgar”

rising hollywood stars, rising hollywood actors, new hollywood talent, hollywood actors

It can be said that Leonardo DiCaprio has long been at the top of anyone’s list of rising hollywood actors.  The actor has been staring in motion pictures and featured on television shows for nearly 20 years.  Over his career he has won three Oscar awards, two for best performance by an Actor and one for best actor in a supporting role.  As well he has won a Golden Globe for best actor and countless local and foreign awards.

DiCaprio has the uncanny ability to gravitate towards and pick great roles for himself.  He has long spoken about how he likes to fully submerge in the character he is playing, whether it be mentally or physically.  He even did so in his character Amsterdam Vallon during “Gangs of New York” that he broke the nose of fellow actor Daniel Day-Lewis during a fight scene.

Such is the case with his latest roll as J. Edgar Hoover, the first director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the film “J.Edgar.”  Apparently to prepare for the roll he did extensive research. He went and visited not only a home previously owned by Hoover, but the Justice Department numerous times as well.  He even reviewed old film taken of Hoover and read all of the testimony Hoover gave before Congress.

“I wanted him to tell me how he walked, how he talked, what his hands looked like, what his desk looked like, what was above his desk,” DiCaprio said.”The research of these roles is half the fun and half the challenge — maybe more. It’s what makes it exciting to me.”
